Students have really begun to explore ocean life and have asked questions ranging from how do ocean animals breath to how are their so many types of shells? They even have decided to figure out which animals have come from shells. One group has used the computer to help them research and learn about different types of shells, while other groups have used clay to create models.
Another area of interest is mask making. After leaving masks in the dramatic play are students have taken a liking to the masks and now want to create their own. They have started and have also started to work on having a masquerade party . In order to connect the two ideas we have decided to create masks that are related to ocean life and see where that leads us.
Students have also begun to develop a sense of ownership for their ocean creatures and have decided to become experts on one specific animal or part of the ocean. I look forward to seeing where this takes us along the way.
