Hanukkah, apple boxes, and Maracas

Today students did a lot of different learning activities. In music they worked with Ms. Kim and used their maracas they made with her to sing songs and practice different sounds and beats. They used different types of materials as beans, rice, and other solid materials to make the sounds.

Students also worked some more on apple boxes. They used the apple box as a helper and then on their own this time came up with different combinations. Instead of five and five, today students were able to create nine and one, seven and three, and six and four.

Students worked on their own to see what they could come up with.

At the end of the day in honor of Hanukkah, students learned about what Latkes are. They created the recipe together and then tasted them. The recipe was 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of milk, 1 large potato, 1/4 cup of cheese, 1 tablespoon of flour, olive oil, and salt/pepper.  First I shredded the potato and then the students added the other ingredients. I used a hot plate and pan to cook the latkes. The students liked them so much that they want to continue to make these tomorrow.
