Happy February, Groundhog Day, Writing and more to come!

I can't believe it is already February and we have a busy but fun month ahead. Today we learned about Groundhog Day and if the Groundhog would see his shadow or not. As a class we learned he would not see his shadow which means spring is on the way. We read some great stories and made some fun hats!

In math this week we are working on sorting and organizing, to start this out we used a bin of different buttons and students worked on sorting them. They found out they could sort them not only by color, but shape, size and design as well!

students add thinking maps to show how they sort

We just finished our Donald Crews writing and students were able to give out glows and grows for a paper they observed and listened to . This was taught as a way to make our work even better and also look at all the great things that we as writers have done.

In the art center with all of the snow that has been falling and with the great observations of the students they used model magic, modge podge and other art materials to make a display of snowmen.

In the superhero center students have decided take the block center and turn it into a superhero village. They have used their characters they have created to attach them to the block center.

Now that we are done with Donald Crews we have moved into oral storytelling by using pictures from things that have happened. Students are using these stories as a way to help them write personal narratives. They are using pictures to help them tell stories.

Outside as the snow is still in the backyard students are using different objects to create trails and also they came up with a idea today that if they use objects they can create images with the snow.
