What's Cooking in the classroom?

We finished up our project on bears. For the past week I have been listening to the children's conversations and have discovered that they are very interested in cooking, and learning all about cooking. They have started to create different recipes in the dramatic play area, built a food pyramid with blocks, and even are  making "pretend" food out of play dough. The initial exploration was to see how familiar they were with real and pretend. In listening to their conversations they are able to determine the difference and started conversating with each other about making food, especially pizza. The talk about pizza has led us to go to UNOS PIZZERIA on Monday February 7, 2011. The purpose will allow students to look at what a real kitchen looks like, and get the chance to be "real" chef's.
