New writing

Today we started our new unit, "writing in the world."Students had the opportunity to explore different types of writing that they see on a daily basis. They looked at menus, calendars, cards, letters, maps, and postcards. From this they took the menus and put them in dramatic play. They thought about how they could turn it into a Starbucks, which may end up as a possible field trip. They were really excited about all that they observed and are excited about the things they notice and even know without even being able to read the words. Students will have the opportunity to explore more writing they see when they tour the building tomorrow!

H looks at a subway map

Students will continue to observe this type of writing. They will be able to create signs, post cards, labels, menus, advertisements, and even letters/cards!
