In math students were introduced to a new unit. I started with letting them know that I had so many buttons and beads and that I wanted to organize them into groups. So I sent them off to see what they could do. They did a great job coming up with ideas as shape, shiny ones, small ones, and ones with holes. The following day we created a tree map to show all the different ways we could sort and then students tried it again, this time creating three different ways to sort.
